Situations when drinking water should be avoided


Two liters of water per day – this is the quantity of water that should be drunk to be properly hydrated, and in the summer even four liters per day, nutritionists say. But, no one told you what happens if you drink … too much water!

Drinking too much water can cause certain illnesses, doctors say, but few people know this!

Here are some situations when drinking water should be avoided:

During meals – It is said that one of the most common mistakes regarding hydration is water consumption during the meal and immediately after. Doctors say that it is very important to avoid drinking water during the meal because it hinders digestion by “diluting” acids and enzymes that lead to the accumulation of toxins in the body. The effect is bloating or distension. There are many people who complain about bloating after drinking water while eating, but that’s because they don’t consume more water in their daily diet. Doctors recommend maintaining adequate hydration throughout the day, up to six or eight full glasses per day. Proper hydration also helps in the functioning of the digestive system.

During or after training – Drinking 2 liters of ice-cold water in the middle of a training session or after intense exercise is not a good solution. You can produce stomach cramps, or worse, your body may get shocked by sudden temperature changes. It is good to drink about 300 ml of water before training and a little while, with little sips.

Before sleep – According to researchers at Glasgow University, drinking large amounts of water before going to bed leads to sleep disturbances, and people have to go to the toilet more often. A glass of water before bedtime is more than enough.

During labor – Especially in the early stages of labor, when the effort is high, women can drink water or natural juices. There are several studies that have shown that beverages and foods consumed during labor don’t represent a threat to the mother or the fetus. However, if you drink too much water during labor and do not eat anything, you may have a higher risk of hyponatraemia or sodium imbalance.
