Things You Shouldn’t Do on an Empty Stomach

You are what you eat – everyone knows this saying. But our health is also influenced by what we do before meal. Here are some things you should never do on an empty stomach because our stomach is more sensitive when it’s completely empty:

1. You don’t need to take anti-inflammatory medication on the empty stomach

You shouldn’t take aspirin, paracetamol or other anti-inflammatory drugs on the empty stomach. If you do that, they will not be so effective anymore, and you may even have serious health problems. You can reduce the negative effects if you drink milk or if you drink plenty of water with the medicine.

2. Don’t drink coffee on an empty stomach

Coffee, even decaffeinated, stimulates the production of acid, which can cause burns in the stomach and other digestive tract problems. If you don’t eat something at breakfast after coffee you may develop a serotonin deficiency and you will not have a good mood all day. If you can’t get rid of the habit of drinking coffee on an empty stomach, try to add milk to it.

3. Don’t drink alcohol on an empty stomach

Alcohol is absorbed two times faster on an empty stomach, just as it would happen if you injected it into your veins. Its effect will pass more slowly, which will cause you a severe hangover. There will be negative consequences for the liver, heart and kidneys. If the situation makes you drink on an empty stomach, choose something cold, non-carbonated, because it is absorbsed more slowly.

4. Don’t chew gum on empty stomach

Hydrochloric acid that is produced when you chewing gum, destroys mucous membranes of the stomach when it is empty and if you have this habit, you will make gastritis. More harmless are gums containing natural sweeteners, not sugar.

 5. Don’t do intense exercise on the empty stomach

It is believed that you burn more calories if you do exercises on the empty stomach. Not is this case – you lose more muscular mass and exercise is not very effective because the body has no energy.

6. You shouldn’t drink citrus juice on an empty stomach

Acidic fibers that are found in citrus juice irritate the empty stomach, which can cause gastritis. Juice freshly squeezed will not hurt you if you dilute it with water in a ratio of 1: 1 or 2: 1.
