3 Simple Homemade Cough Syrup Recipes

During this period, more and more people have health problems. If you confront with a cough that won’t give you peace and you are tired of taking so many medicines, we recommend you try some old homemade recipes. These recipes are based on honey. Honey is a very good cure for cough, with antimicrobial properties and helps to fight against respiratory infections.

Recipe 1 – Onion syrup with honey

You need a bigger or two onion and 100 grams of honey.

Bake the onion until it’s soaked very well. Clean the peel, crush the middle and put it in a clean glass. After cooling add the honey, mix well and, if necessary, add a little water.

You can also cook 200 g onion, cleaned, washed, cut in a small pieces, with 400 ml of water. Cover with a lid and boil until the water drops to half. Squeeze and add honey after the mixture has cooled.

Administration: For children, from 1 to 6 teaspoons per day until the cough stops, then gradually decrease the doses. Adults should follow the same scheme from 3 to 6 tablespoons a day.

 

The syrup can be stored in the refrigerator for one week or at room temperature for 2-3 days. Should be stored in a glass recipient.

Recipe 2 – Lemon syrup with honey

You need 1 lemon, 2 tablespoons of glycerin and 1 glass of honey.

Wash the lemon very well and boil it with peel for 10 minutes, in 100 ml of water. Wait to cool, squeeze and squeeze through a gauze. Add glycerin and honey in the obtained liquid. Mix until the mixture is homogenized and store in the refrigerator.

Administration: For children, from 1 to 6 teaspoons per day until the cough stops, then gradually decrease the doses. Adults should follow the same scheme from 3 to 6 tablespoons a day.

 

 

Recipe 3 – Plantain honey syrup

You need 200 g of fresh plantain leaves, 400 ml of water and 100 g of honey.

Boil the plantain in a covered pot, on low heat, for 30 minutes. Allow to cool and squeeze the liquid; after it has cooled, add honey.

Administration: For children, from 1 to 6 teaspoons per day until the cough stops, then gradually decrease the doses. Adults should follow the same scheme from 3 to 6 tablespoons a day.
